Betty was born Nov. 20, 1917, to George and Cecil (Waddell) Dunn at Cherokee. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1933. She then attended Iowa State Teacher's College for two years and received a teaching degree.
She was united in marriage to Ed Bjorge Feb. 18, 1939, at Dakota City, Neb. She taught school in Liberty Township, rural Cherokee. She and her husband farmed in Cedar Township. She moved to Cherokee in 2002.
She was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church in rural Meriden. She was involved with Women's Ministries, Daughters of the American Revolution and neighborhood birthday club.
She enjoyed church, family, flowers and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ed Sept. 7, 1992, son-in-law Neal Anderson; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Erla Mae Dunn, and a nephew Richard Dunn.
She is survived by four children: Dr. Tom Bjorge and his wife, Ina Marie, of Le Mars, Alice Anderson of Cherokee, Dian Fredrickson and her husband, Dr. Curtis, of Eagan, Minn., and Lynn Ivarson and her husband, Craig, of Cleghorn; nine grandchildren: Karin (Dr. Thor) Swanson; Dr. Brent (Heather) Fredrickson; Dr. Jill (Jeff) Nelson; Jan (Bernadette) Bjorge; Britt (Michael) Krizmanich; Eric Ivarson and his fiancée, Annie Stoll; Heidi Anderson; Joel (Wendy) Ivarson; Kristin (Nick) Patterson; 13 great-grandchildren: Marin, Ella, Trina, Kari, Johanna, Henrik, Ingrid, Annika, Linnea, Lars, Sophia, Garrett and Kate.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Tuesday) at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church rural Meriden. Pastor Clint Hogrefe and Dr. Thor Swanson officiated. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery, rural Meriden. There was a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church Tuesday. Visitation was Monday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m.
