A 10-year-old girl is hospitalized in Omaha after two pit bulls apparently attacked her in rural Akron Wednesday.

Breanna Buenger, 10, had been playing in the yard of 22652 Highway 3, the home of Stephanie Trobaugh, where Buenger and her mother are staying.

Two 10-month-old pit bull dogs, owned by Trobaugh, were let out into the yard where the girl was playing, according to a Plymouth County Sheriff's report.

"It is not clear what started the attack; however, the two dogs attacked Buenger in the yard," the report stated.

The girl was able to free herself and get back into the house, where family members called 911, according to the report.

The call came in at about 2:59 p.m., and the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office and Akron Ambulance were dispatched to the home.

"Buenger had received numerous bites and puncture wounds to the head and neck area," the report said.

She was treated at the scene and transported by Akron Ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital, in Sioux City. Since then, Buenger has been transported to an Omaha hospital.

The dogs, one male and one female, have since been taken to a local vet clinic for observation.
