Raymond Rice, 82, of Matador, Texas, died Friday, March 25, 2011.
Raymond Rice was born July 13, 1928 in Ware, Mass., the son of Stanley and Mildred Gascou Rice. Ray married Patty Mae Papenhausen Oct. 21, 1949. From this union they had three children, Neal, Gail, and Jill.
Ray was in the Navy for 20 years. He was a senior chief electrician.
Ray and Patty moved to Matador, Texas, in 2004. She preceded him in death in 2006.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Roaring Springs, Texas, the American Veterans, and the Fleet Reserve Association.
He enjoyed playing dominoes at the Senior Citizens in Matador.
Ray is survived by his children, Neal Rice of Melvin, Gail Ream and husband, Chuck of Matador, Texas, and Jill Schnepf and husband Pat of Vernon, Texas; his sisters: Doris Ford and husband, Art of Victorville, Calif., Barbara Hanson and husband, Stan of North Brookefield, Mass. Alice and Cecila; his grandchildren: Callie and Scott Hodgson, Gabe and Amanda Ohlson, Charlie and Mike Bigham, Mandi Ream and friend, John Martin, Jobey and Corey Schnepf, Ellie Schnepf, Traci Schnepf and Lisa and Kevin Korselman; and great-grandchildren: Braden Bigham, Nolan Hodgson, Aryn and Emi Ohlson.
Ray was preceded in death by a grandson, Rod Rice; his parents Stanley and Mildred Rice; and his loving wife, Patty Rice.
Memorial services were at 3 p.m. Monday, at the First United Methodist Church of Matador, Texas, with Pastor Bill Manney officiating. Cremation is under the direction of Shannon Funeral Home of Matador. He will be put to rest in Van Meter Military Cemetery in Iowa.
The Shannon-McBee Family Funeral Home of Matador, Texas, was in charge of arrangements.
