Duane Earl Heidbrink was born Feb.18, 1930, in Le Mars, the son of Louis Henry and Marguerite Henrietta (Kading) Heidbrink. He attended country school near his home at Neptune.
Following his education Duane lived with his parents and assisted them with farming. He was a hard worker and helped them with milking, raising chickens and baling hay.
Later in life he loved to interact with his nieces and nephews, playing sports and games.
Duane's mother died in 1976. He remained on the farm with his father until Louis died in 1985. Duane moved to Plymouth Life in Le Mars and in 2001 he moved to The Abbey of Le Mars.
He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton and later at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
Duane will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Delores Schultz of Rapid City, S.D., and Kay Freking and her husband, Harold of Le Mars; his sister-in-law, Janice Heidbrink of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters; an infant brother; a brother, Wesley; and a brother-in-law Dale Schultz.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today (Monday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The Rev. Timothy Geitz of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars officiated. Burial was at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ireton. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home, with the family present from 3-5 p.m. and a prayer service at 4 p.m. Visitation resumed at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
