Donald Nicholas Deiterman was born July 31, 1927, on the family farm near Le Mars, the son of Pete and Sophie (Steichen) Deiterman. Donald attended country school near his home. As a young man, Don began farming with his parents.
Donald served his country in Germany during World War II from Oct. 16, 1945, until his honorable discharge Dec. 30, 1946. Following his discharge from the service he returned back to Plymouth County to farm, and to raise cattle and hogs.
He remained on his farm west of Le Mars until 1998 when he went to live with his brother, Gerald, until his death.
Don loved raising livestock. He particularly enjoyed going to western Nebraska to buy cattle and attend farm sales.
Survivors include his brothers, Gerald Deiterman of Merrill and Leo Deiterman and his wife, Lorraine of Merrill; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Glennes Deiterman.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Dan Greving officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241 of Le Mars will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 5 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will continue Friday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
