Crippen leads Lady Bulldog bowlers to state

LE MARS -- Kayla Crippen garnered the invididual title while leading the Le Mars Community girls bowling team to the Class 1A regional bowling title on Saturday at Sweet 16 Lanes in Le Mars.

Crippen rolled games of 217 and 256 to total a 473 series and claim top honors.

Le Mars totaled 2,614 pins to edge its nearest competitor by more than 300 pins.

Ashley Rolfes added games of 206 and 172 for a 378 series while Erin Heffner's 362 series came from games of 201 and 161.

Danielle Hystad rolled a 336 series (192-144) and Katherine Detloff rounded out the counting scores with a 312 series (172-140).

Le Mars added 753 pins in the Baker Rotation.

The Lady Bulldogs will compete at the state bowling tournament at Plaza Lanes in Des Moines on Thursday.

Girls team scores: 1. Le Mars, 2614; Denison-Schleswig, 2266; 3. OA-BCIG, 2208; 4. Sergeant Bluff-Luton, 2172; 5. West Sioux, 2100; 6. Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn, 1898.

Wurth earns at-large bid to state

Cody Wurth rolled a 451 series to lead the Le Mars boys at Saturday's substate meet in Le Mars.

Dension-Schleswig edged the Bulldogs to claim the state berth with a team score of 2,883. Le Mars turned in a team 2,814.

Wurth's series earned an at-large bid and he will compete as an individual at this week's state tournament at Plaza Lanes in Des Moines.

Wurth turned in games of 206 and 245 to lead Le Mars.

Mason Prieksat roleld a 391 series with games of 236 and 155 while Ryan Kuiken's 377 series included games of 192 and 185.

Andy Heffner totaled 367 pins with games of 178 and 189 and Brock Hofland rolled a 351 series (181-170).

The Bulldogs added 877 pins in the Baker Rotation.

Kole Kierscht of team champion Denison-Schleswig garnered the individual title with a 490 series.
