Ardis M. Karlson, 86, of Kingsley, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Ardis M. Karlson was born Aug. 4, 1924, in Kingsley, the daughter of Walter Louis and Gladys Hazel (Vannorsdel) Karlson. She attended grade school in Kingsley and graduated from Kingsley High School in 1942. Ardis continued her education at Iowa State University in Ames, earning a bachelor of science degree in dietetics.
After graduation, Ardis started her dietician career in Sioux City. She eventually moved to Philadelphia and then to Pittsburg, Pa., where she worked for the Colonnade Cafeterias until her retirement in 1980. She returned to Kingsley at that time to take care of her ailing mother.
Ardis was a member of Church of the Brethren in Kingsley. After her mother's death, Ardis remained in Kingsley where she and Louise Boozer opened the Pizza Hut in Kingsley.
Blessed to have shared her life are her niece, Kay (Karlson) Hedeen of Warrenville, Ill.; her nephew, Eric "Rick" Karlson of Aurora, Colo.; and her close friend, Louise Boozer of Kingsley.
Preceding her in death were her father and mother; and a brother Durward (Dode/Karl) Karlson.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson-Earnest Funeral Home of Kingsley. The Rev. Bob Blair will officiate. Burial will follow at Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Johnson - Earnest Funeral Home.
