Roger L. Schulz, 51, of Orange City, and formerly of Le Mars, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at his home following a brief illness.

Roger Lester Schulz was born July 8, 1959, in Hawarden, the son of Melvin and Virginia (Sanow) Schulz. He received his education at Maurice-Orange City and Le Mars Community Schools. Following school, Roger went to work for Jack Killeas as a farm hand in the Le Mars area. For the last 16 years he worked as a mechanic at Eason's Shop in Orange City. Roger also operated a lawn and snow removal service.

In his spare time, Roger enjoyed working on cars and home remodeling. He liked riding his motorcycle, grilling and BBQ and watching movies.

Roger had a big heart and was always helping others with their projects.

He will be lovingly remembered by his two sisters, Margaret (Dan) Huls and Nancy Schulz, both of Le Mars; three brothers, Rodney (Linda) Schulz of Sioux City, Douglas (Judy) Schulz and Thomas (Maria) Schulz, both of Le Mars; several nieces and nephews; two aunts, Joyce Gotto of Glendora, Calif., and Phyllis Sanow of Le Mars; and an uncle, Herman (Marlene) Schulz of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and an infant sister, Kim.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ireton, at a later date. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
