Bob was born Feb. 20, 1932, in Le Mars, the son of Joseph and Sadie (Grothe) Hettwer. He grew up and received his education there. He then entered the Navy and served during the Korean War.
He was united in marriage to Marion Vogel, of Old Bridge, N.J., Feb. 27, 1954. Their married residences consisted of Freehold, N.J., Marlboro, N.J., Fairbank, Iowa, and Sioux Falls, S.D.
Bob was a bricklayer for more than forty years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Elks Club in Freehold, N.J., and the American Legion in Fairbank.
Grateful for having shared is life are his wife Marion, of Sioux Falls; two sons, Michael (Pamella) Hettwer, Plymouth, Mass., and Thomas (Barbara) Hettwer, Freehold, N.J.; a daughter, Bobbie (John) Schuety, Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers, Ken (Shirley) Hettwer, Le Mars, and Richard (Darlene) Hettwer, Evansville, Ind.; three sisters, DeLores Hoxsie, and Mary Luschen, both of Le Mars, and Kay Fiedler, Sioux Fall, S.D.; five grandchildren: Danielle and Shawn Hettwer, Plymouth, Mass., Samantha (Ross) Pederson, Pierre, S.D., Rebecca and Joshua Schuety, Sioux Falls; a great-grandson, Rhiley Pedersen, Pierre, S.D.
His parents, a daughter, a brother and two sisters, preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 13, at Miller West Funeral Chapel in Sioux Falls.
