Octavia Mary Weiler, 83, of Remsen, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Octavia was born May 15, 1927, at Granville, the daughter of Nick and Catherine (Hoffman) Stoffel. She was raised and educated in the Remsen area and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen in 1945. After graduating from high school, she worked at Dean Drug in Sioux City for several years.

On Oct. 16, 1946, she married Marvin Weiler. They lived on a farm outside of Kingsley for several years before moving to a farm near Remsen in 1960. They had 14 children who all graduated from St. Mary's as well. Marvin died Dec. 9, 1987.

Octavia remained on the farm for two years. In 1989 she moved into Remsen. In August 2007 she moved to Happy Siesta Health Care Center.

She was a member of Remsen St. Mary's Catholic Church and church guild, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters. She was a volunteer for Oscar Cash and Happy Siesta.

She enjoyed wood working, golfing, crocheting, fishing, playing pinochle and spending time with family.

Octavia will be truly missed by her family.

Octavia is survived by six daughters and eights sons: Connie Galles and her husband ,Ron of Remsen, Marvin Jr. and his wife, Donna of Ankeny, Cindy Weiler of Le Mars, Bob and his wife, Gayla of Le Mars, Rick of Struble, Jay and his wife Ellen of Dundee, Ore., Denise Hanson of Marcus, Tim and his wife, Lorie of Remsen, Janet Hartman and her husband, Rob of Blairsville, Ga., Chris and his wife Julie, of Le Mars, Sharon Weiler of Lafayette, Ore., Mike of Le Mars, Mona Boylan and her husband, Scott of Le Mars, Jeff and his wife, Darla of Remsen; 37 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Carney and her husband, Dick of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Agnes Kritzer of Sioux City; six sisters-in-law, Olga Stoffel of Woodsville, Wis., Irene Linen of Sibley, Adel Stoffel of Bettendorf, Valeria Schroeder and Therry Weiler, both of Remsen, and Rosella Mueller of Omaha, Neb.; and one brother-in-law, Carel Connor of Remsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Susan at child birth; five brothers, Bill, Florian, Jack, Andy and Nick; one sister, Martha Goergen and her husband Joe; four brothers-in-law, Dominic Schroeder, Gilbert Weiler, Ralph Mueller, Henry Kritzer; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Connor and Verna Harvey and her husband, Floyd.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. Tuesday. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m., and vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Casketbearers will be Mark Galles, Trent Weiler, Jeremy Weiler, Nathan Weiler, Jason Prieksat Weiler and Brooke Hanson. Honorary bearers will be Octavia's grandchildren.
