Luella M. Klein, 86, of Granville, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Luella was born Jan. 16, 1924, at rural Hospers, the daughter of Dominic and Petronella (Van Burgen) Penning. She was raised and educated in Hospers.

On Nov. 18, 1941 she married Lawrence Klein at Hospers. They made their home northwest of Granville where they farmed until 1971. Lawrence died Oct. 15, 1971. Luella then moved into Granville in 1973 where she remained until moving to Plymouth Manor in Le Mars on Feb. 4, 2009.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, church guild, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Daughters of America.

Luella loved dancing, quilting, baseball games, gardening, watching birds and praying.

Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Sanny of Le Mars, Byrlea Budden and her husband, Ron of Granville; three sons, Jake Klein and his wife, Ellen of Alton, Mark Klein and Cindy of Granville, and Paul Klein of Sacramento, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Bueltel of Sioux City; three sisters-in-law, Sister Teresa (Helen) Klein OSF of Dubuque, Mary Ann Penning and Kitty Penning, both of Granville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dominic Klein; two brothers, Julius and Adrian Penning; one son-in-law, Gerald Sanny; three sisters-in-law, Ann Penning and her husband Edward, Sister Oda (Katherine) Klein OSF, and Agnes Klein; three brothers-in-law, Nick Klein, Leo Klein, Henry Klein and his wife, Evelyn.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville with the Rev. Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m., and vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home and Monument in Remsen.

Casketbearers will be Craig Budden, Jason Sanny, Doug and Brian Klein, Tom Kuiper and Darrin Recker. Honorary bearer will be Larry Klein.
