Dean Roger Schuck, 53, of West Des Moines, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer for six years.

Dean was born May 22, 1957, in Sibley, the son of Albert and Marie Schuck. He graduated from Sibley High School in 1975 and Northwest Iowa Community College in 1977.

He worked in sales for 32 years, most recently for Professional Car Wash Systems.

Dean was married to the love of his life, Sherrie, Sept. 10, 1983.

Dean enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, good times at Okoboji and Colorado, attending all of his son's activities, hunting, fishing and working Vacation Bible School at Lutheran Church of Hope, where he was a member.

He was filled with "ruha," opening his heart to the breath, life and spirit of God and touching all those he met in life.

Dean is survived by his wife, Sherrie of West Des Moines; son, Justin of West Des Moines; mother, Marie Schuck of Sibley; two brothers, Glenn (Janice) Schuck and Duane (Kathy) Schuck, both of Worthington, Minn.; mother-in-law, Laura (Clarence) Postma of Orange City; two brothers-in-law, Bryon (Kelly) Van Wyk and Scott (Laura) Van Wyk, both of Le Mars; and many nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his father, Albert Schuck and father-in-law, Gene Van Wyk.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lutheran Church of Hope.
