Lloyd Earl Schultz, of Tehachapi, Calif., at the age of 81, passed on in Bakersfield, Calif., to be with his Lord on Aug. 1, 2010.

Lloyd was born May 24, 1929 in Le Mars, to his parents Frank and LouElla Schultz. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in agriculture. In 1962 Lloyd married Carla Harms and they moved to Tehachapi, Calif., in 1963. There he was employed at The California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi for 24 years, retiring as the supervisor of vocational education. For 17 years he owned the Western Auto store in McFarland, Calif., managed by his brother, Dale and sister-in-law, Delores Schultz.

After retirement, Lloyd pursued his varied interests which included gardening, photography, and writing his "famous" letters to the editor. He looked forward to waking up at 5 o'clock in the morning to have coffee with his buddies.

Lloyd loved feeding the Orioles and watching them in his beautiful backyard.

As a Papa, he was always teaching something new to his grandchildren.

For many years he was actively involved with the Tehachapi Lion's Club, serving as president and in many other capacities. He also served as secretary/treasurer for California State Employees Association Retirees.

Lloyd will be greatly missed by his many friends and long remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife Carla; daughter Heidi Barker and husband, David, and daughter Lisa Schultz; two grandchildren, Kenna and Bryce Barker; brother, Robert Schultz; sisters, Bette Harvey and Bonne Steele; brother-in-law Tom Steel, sisters-in-law, Elenore Breitbarth and Delores Schultz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was proceded in death by his brothers Marvin, Francis, and Dale Schultz.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. today (Friday) at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 329 South Mill St., in Tehachapi. A luncheon will follow.
