Steven Cleo Henry was born Jan. 20, 1949, in Kingsley, the son of Emmett W. and Stefanie (Kuhajewski) Henry. He attended Kingsley-Pierson High School. He sang in a local band while he was a teenager.
Following graduation, Steven enlisted in the United States Army. He was inducted May 2, 1968 at Omaha, Neb. He served overseas in Germany prior to earning his honorable discharge March 20, 1970. Steven returned to the area and began a longtime career with John Morrell in Sioux City. A disability related to his military service caused him to retire early.
Steven enjoyed life and the company of others. He always had a positive outlook. He enjoyed cooking and caring for the other tenants in his apartment building.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Crystal and Robyn of Oskaloosa, and a son Troy of Fremont, Neb.; sisters, Mabel Durr and her husband, Terry of Le Mars, and Maria Bales and her husband, Dale of Indianola; a brother, Bill Henry and his wife, Tracy of South Sioux City, Neb.; special friends Larry, Sue, Brenda and Bernice; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-niece.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Johnson-Earnest Funeral Home of Kingsley. Burial will follow at a later date. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Irwin, Doug Harms, and Rob Hansen.
