Fair auction features unique items

Friday, July 30, 2010
Collectibles and one-of-a-kind items will be on the auction block Sunday at the annual Plymouth County Fair auction in Pioneer Village.

It features woodcarvings of chainsaw artist A.J. Lutter.

Collectibles on the auction include the No. 1 and 2 belt buckles (two pewter and two colored) from the Town and Country Toy Club; and the No. 1 and 2 fair trucks from The Toy Store.

Once again Geri Dreckman of Le Mars has created a one-of-a-kind quilt this year featuring the barn quilts of Plymouth County.

The colorful quilt brings together 42 fabric squares representing the barn and welcome quilts in the Plymouth County area.

The squares, bordered in black, are under a quilted landscape agriculture scene featuring the Round Barn, now a fairground landmark.

Unique items on the auction this year are a chair, bench and table constructed from lumber from the dairy barn, which was torn down this summer.

Jerry Gorrell put his woodworking skills to use in the project, and incorporated stall numbers into the design.

The auction starts at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the Pioneer Village.

All proceeds from the auction go to the Plymouth County Fair.
