FORT DODGE--A 1-1 tie after seven innings of play combined with the 90 minute time limit forced the Class 1A fifth-place game to use the international tie-breaker in the eighth inning.
Seventh-rated North Sentral Kossuth's two runs in the top of the final frame were not enough as No. 4 Woodward-Granger plated a three-spot in the bottom of the frame to take the 4-3 win and fifth place in Class 1A.
Julia Evans stole home for the first run of the inning and then Savannah Bice singled in the tying run before Katelyn Buckalew hit in the winning run.
Sydney McCune and Dani Gilbert each had a pair of hits for the Hawks (35-5), who totaled 10 hits in the win.
Kirsten Adams was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to pace the Eagles (32-7), who totaled eight in the loss.
Earlier in the day, Woodward-Granger defeated Lynnville-Sully 12-2 and NSK snuck past Preston 1-0 to advance to the fifth-place contest.

FORT DODGE--Preston starter Kelcie Bormann fanned 11 in a complete-game five-hitter as the sixth-ranked Trojans defeated No. 8 Lynnville-Sully 8-2 to place seventh in Class 1A on Wednesday.
Brianna James allowed five earned runs on 10 hits and three walks and struck out three in the loss for the Hawks (25-6), who placed eighth in their first-ever state tournament appearance.
Megan Zeimet and Korissa Daniels each collected three hits for Preston (34-8) in the win.

IKM-Manning 4, Jesup 3
FORT DODGE--In a battle of unranked teams, the Wolves of IKM-Manning placed seventh in Class 2A with a 4-3 win over the Jesup J-Hawks Wednesday afternoon.
The Wolves bounced back after surrendering a 5-2 lead and falling 7-6 to Mid-Prairie earlier in the day. Hinton hit up Jesup for an 11-1 victory to send the J-Hawks to the seventh-place contest.
Laura Eberly and Andrea Reischl each had a pair of hits for the Wolves (25-15) in the win.
Kayla Mangrich, Leah Durnil and Nicci Robberts collected two hits apiece in the loss.
Jesup starter Kelsey Lough fanned seven in the loss.

Maquoketa 4, Bishop Heelan 3
FORT DODGE--Brittany Wilms singled in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as No. 9 Maquoketa defeated third-ratetd Bishop Heelan 4-3 to place fifth in Class 3A on Wednesday afternoon.
Wilms, Kelsey Bollman and Brooklyn Koranda each had a pair of hits for the Cardinals (34-7), who took Heelan starter Jordan Johnson for eight hits and three earned runs. Johnson fanned four in the loss.
Hailey Bickford collected the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and striking out four.
Johnson and Chloe Kambach each had a pair of hits for the Crusaders (34-5).
Maquoketa defeated Waverly-Shell Rock 5-1 and Heelan came from behind to defeat Harlan 5-4 earlier in the day.

FORT DODGE--Katelyn MacDonalad went 2-for-4 to pace the fifth-ranked Go-Hawks in Wednesday's 6-3 win over No. 15 Harlan, which secured a seventh-place finish in Class 3A for Waverly-Shell Rock.
Harlan pitcher Brooke Schaben fanned six in the loss for the Cyclones (28-13), who committed two errors that produced three runs for the Go-Hawks (39-4).

Muscatine 4, Sioux City East 2
FORT DODGE--Kayla Gaunt threw a complete-game four-hitter as No. 3 Muscatine defeated No. 15 Sioux City East 4-2 to place fifth in Class 4A on Wednesday afternoon.
Gaunt added a 2-for-3 plate performance to pace the Muskies (37-5), who totaled eight hits in the win.
Taylor Michaelson had two of the four hits for the Black Raiders (26-13) in the loss. McKenzie Robinson drove in both runs.
Earlier in the day, the Black Raiders claimed a 5-2 decision over Cedar Rapids Xavier and it took Muscatine 10 innings to defeat Dowling Catholic 6-4.

Dowling Catholic 7, Cedar Rapids Xavier 6
FORT DODGE--Mackenzie Clair singled in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth at unranked Dowling Catholic defeated No. 10 Cedar Rapids Xavier 7-6 to place seventh in Class 4A.
Clair led the Dowling Catholic offense, which totaled 14 hits, with a 4-for-5 performance and the game-winning RBI.
Mickie Ryan was 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Demi Plathe and Kelsay Hannam each had two hits for the Maroons (24-13).
Abby Bedard was 3-for-5 with two runs scored to lead the Saints (34-11), who totaled 11 hits in the loss.
Dowling pitcher Claudia Farrell fanned 11 in the eight-inning performance.
