The former Lorna "June" Schnepf was born Nov. 6, 1929, in New Ulm, Minn., the daughter of Vincent and Mathilda (Ruppert) Schnepf. She grew up in the Merrill area and graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Le Mars in 1947. June married Verdon "V.J." Doud Nov. 10, 1948 at Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill. She had been employed at Wiltgen Ready Mix as a bookkeeper.
In 1974, the couple purchased the Bel Air Motel in Le Mars, which they operated until 1984 when they retired. Her husband Verdon "V.J." died May 16, 2005.
June was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and active member of the Church Guild, Catholic Daughters of America and the Christian Mothers Society.
She enjoyed playing cards and road trips to the casino with her friends.
Survivors include her three children: Nancy and her husband, Dwight Metcalf of Sergeant Bluff, Mike Doud of Sioux Center, and Sue and her husband, Randy Burns of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Janet Sordrager of Sioux City, and Carol Yoka of Lodi, Calif.; a brother, Don and his wife, Pearl Schnepf of Oyens; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Verdon "V.J." Doud.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.
Visitation will be anytime after 3 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, where there will be a combined rosary by the Catholic Daughters of America and the Christian Mothers Society at 4 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m.
