Barbara was born March 11, 1957, in Le Mars, the daughter of Victor and Lucille Zenk. Barb grew up on the family farm near Seney and graduated from Le Mars Community School in 1975.
She then attended and graduated from Western Iowa Tech Community College and started working at Aalfs Manufacting in Le Mars as a seamstress. Barbara then went to work at IBP in Dakota City, Neb., for 10 years. She also worked at the Ponca (Neb.) Nursing Home and took care of an elderly couple. She started working at Gateway until they closed and she was currently working as a custodian at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, until March of 2010 and part-time at Masterworks in Vermillion.
Barb loved spending time outdoors gardening and enjoyed taking long walks. She also liked spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include six brothers, Mark Zenk and wife Linda of Sioux City, Fred and Donna Zenk of Akron, Dale and Suzanne Zenk of Merrill, Peter Zenk, Robert and Shannon Zenk, Ray and Brenda Zenk, all of Le Mars; and three sisters, Alice and Pete Zibers of Raymore, Mo., Susan and Mark Schwartz of Le Mars and Joyce and Wayne Sands of Moville. She has 15 nieces and seven nephews.
She is loved by all of her family dearly and will be missed terribly.
She was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Lucille Zenk.
Mass service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Interment will be in Saint Catherines Catholic Cemetery in Oyens. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church with the family present from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.
