Linae Ann Hiemstra was born Nov. 3, 1957, in Sioux City, the daughter of Harley and Keyth ( Harmes) Hiemstra. She graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School in 1976 and from Westmar College in 1980 with a bachelor of arts degree in education. Linae was currently teaching K-third special needs children at Dakota Valley School in McCook Lake, S.D.
Linae was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Kingsley where she had taught Sunday school for 33 years. She was a member of the Administrative Board at the United Methodist Church.
After completing college, Linae substitute taught in the Kingsley area while taking care of her terminally ill mother until her passing in 1992.
Linae enjoyed working with special needs children and teaching Sunday school. She also enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, babysitting, and playing with the neighborhood children.
Survivors include her father and step-mother, Harley and Laverne Hiemstra of Kingsley; brothers, Randy (JoEtte) Hiemstra of Kingsley and Ron Hiemstra of Springfield, Mo.; three nieces and three nephews; two great-nephews and one great-niece.
She is preceded in death by her mother Keyth (Harmes) Hiemstra.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kingsley United Methodist Church, in Kingsley. The Rev. Roger Kurtenbach will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday), with the family present after 5 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at Kingsley United Methodist Church in Kingsley. The Rohde Funeral Home on Kingsley is in charge of arrangements.
