Marian A. Walsh, 85, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.

Marian was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Le Mars, the daughter of Daniel J. and Clara (Frerichs) Cronin. She received her education in the Le Mars Public Schools before moving to Sioux City. She married LaVern R. Walsh April 14, 1948 in Le Mars.

She was employed by Sunrise Retirement Community, Palmer House Motel, and Howard Johnson Hotel in Sioux City.

Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

She will be remembered for her devotion to family, her joy of everyday, and her great cooking.

Marian is survived by her son, Douglas Walsh and his wife, Christy, of Topeka, Kan.; daughters, Pamela Walsh of Sioux City, Patricia Ellsworth and her husband, Ross, of Omaha, Neb., and Julie Buck and her husband, Gary, of Pleasant Hill; brothers, Robert Cronin and his wife, Paula, of Oyens, and Kenneth Cronin and his wife, Kathleen, of Le Mars; sister, Claris Hoefling and her husband, Fred, of Sioux City; granddaughters Amy Hansen and her husband, Josh, of Omaha and Callie Buck of Pleasant Hill; and great-granddaughter, Sophia Elizabeth Hansen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband LaVern; siblings Mildred Sitzman, Evelyn Hager, Dorothy Ross, James Cronin, and Helen Franciscus.

Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City with the Rev. Daniel Guenther as Celebrant. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Friday with family present at 6 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. in Sioux City. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Siouxland.
