Loretta Cronin, 91, of Sibley, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab in Sibley.

Loretta Alvina Cronin was born March 18, 1918, the daughter of George and Gerdena (Peil) Groenewold, near Sibley. She attended country school and did housekeeping.

Loretta married Richard "Biz" Cronin March 7, 1942 in Omaha, Neb. She was a lifelong resident of Osceola County living in Sibley and Melvin.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America and a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 7373 in Sibley.

Her husband Richard "Biz" died Feb.16, 2003, after almost 61 years of marriage.

Loretta enjoyed being around her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and all of her relatives and friends.

Loretta is survived by five sons and their families: Ron (wife, Mary) Cronin of Corwith, Robert (wife, Rosemary) Cronin of Le Mars, Rodney (wife, Marsha) Cronin of Larchwood, Ray (wife, Jackie) Cronin of Dawson, Minn., and Rick Cronin of Melvin, and his friend Terri Malenke of Sheldon; seven grandchildren, Diana (husband, Joe) Youngwirth, Dawn (husband, Mike) Carroll, Brad (wife, Steffaney) Cronin, Laura (husband, Matt) Miller, Carrie (husband, Todd) Brownmiller, Tom Cronin and Jennifer (husband, Ryan) Roemen; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard; her parents, George and Gerdena Groenewold; and one brother, Edward and his wife Mrytle Groenewold.

Mass of Christian burial was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sibley, with the Rev. John Vakulskas as celebrant. Burial was at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation was Monday 3-8 p.m., with the family present 6-8 p.m., a rosary at 5 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.
