A-W splits weekend pair

Karly Groon scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Akron-Westfield to a 64-38 non-conference win over Alcester-Hudson on Saturday.

Jordan Harris added 16 points, five assists and three steals to the effort while Tasha Johnson scored six points, grabbed five rebounds, five steals and dished out seven assists.

The win improved A-W's record to 12-6 overall.

The Lady Westerners came up on the short end of a narrow War Eagle Conference battle on Friday as they fell by two points to WEC newcomer Hartley-Melvin-Sanboarn in Hartley.

Monica Harvey scored 18 points to lead A-W and Groon added 10 points and 13 rebounds. Groon also blocked a pair of shots.
