No. 1 Bishop Heelan 75, No. 4 Hinton 37
SIOUX CITY--The fourth-ranked (Class 2A) Hinton girls basketball team dropped its first game of the season on Tuesday as the Blackhawks fell 75-37 to Class 3A's top-ranked Heelan Crusaders.
The one-loss Crusaders, who placed second at last season's Class 3A state tournament, got 21 points from Amanda Hoffman and 18 points from Mollie Niggeling.
Ashton Moddy led Hinton led Hinton with 15 points and added nine rebounds. Mackenzie Small scored 10 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out four assists to go along with five steals.
Jenna Riediger and Mallory Thoreson each scored five points.
The Blackhawks (19-1) committed 27 turnovers on the evening.
Hinton, which fell to No. 6 in the Class 2A poll released on Tuesday, hosts Remsen St. Mary's on Friday.
The Blackhawks wrap up their regular season by hosting West Sioux on Tuesday.

Gehlen Catholic to host "Coaches vs. Cancer" night Monday
LE MARS--Gehlen Catholic players and fans will wear pink accessories in a Coaches vs. Cancer night on Monday as the Jays take on Unity Christian in War Eagle Conference action.
Monday's contest is Gehlen's final home game during the regular season and will also serve as the traditional 'Senior Night.'
The goal of Coaches vs. Cancer is to raise awareness of cancer and the importance of nutrition and physical activity play in reducing one's risk of the disease.
The program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Remsen-Union and Remsen St. Mary's also participated in the event during a cross-town contest during December.
