Rewind time at 1960s bash

Friday, February 5, 2010
Ready to turn back time to the day of hippies, the Beatles and psychedelic grooviness?

It's time to bust out your bellbottoms and love beads, the 1960s are making a comeback in Le Mars.

The Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting you to spend an evening in the '60s at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 27 at the Willow Creek Golf Course banquet hall.

"You will be taken back to an era of peace, love and harmony," said Deb Parmelee, one of the event chairwomen.

It's going to be a nifty night, complete with a meal reminiscent of '60s fare (brownies will be served) and righteous tunes spun by music guru Dave Ruden -- so bring your '60s requests.

And brush up on those '60s dance moves -- the swim, the pony, they hully gully and the twist -- you'll be putting them to use on the dance floor.

You might even want to try a chance in the hula hoop contest.

Don't forget to come dressed for the decade. Everyone will be wearing their best 1960s threads -- Nehru jackets, go-go boots, mini skirts, ponchos, and plenty of tie dye.

"Bring out your inner flower child," said Mary Helen McManus, another event chairwoman.

You'll get to capture the moment in pictures, courtesy of a photo booth available all night.

Tickets for the event, $30 per person, are available at the Chamber of Commerce. They can also be purchased in tables of eight.

And it's all for a gnarly cause -- all the money raised will be used to benefit the Le Mars community.

The Chamber plans to hold a different themed event each year like this one.

The night will be a great opportunity to have some fun and support community projects, Parmelee said.

"It's just a nostalgic trip to the '60s," McManus said. "Back when life was groovy."
