Girls basketball
Aurelia 45, R-U 35
The Remsen-Union girls made the most of their illness and injury-depleted lineup on Tuesday evening but still came up short with a 45-35 loss to Aurelia.
"I was very proud of the girls dealing with the depleted lineup," R-U coach Robin Niles said.
The Lady Rockets trailed 12-5 after eight minutes of action but rebounded in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 13-11 to trail 23-18 at the half.

"Alexa (Pick) has really worked hard the past few weeks and has improved tremendously," Niles said. "Brittany Weikel and Hailey Loutsch both stepped up their game and took on the duties of player-callers and ball-handlers. Weikel collected seven points , six assists, eight rebounds and eight steals in the loss. Loutsch chipped in seven points, two rebounds and three assists.
"The young team still made some mistakes, especially in the area of passing," Niles said. "But their overall game improved with the confidence that they play with."
