Plymouth County College athlete update

Throughout the school year, the Daily Sentinel will provide updates on former Plymouth County athletes who are competing at the next level.

Men's basketball

Briar Cliff University: Eric Rohe, a Gehlen alum, scored four points in the Chargers' 77-58 loss to Dakota Wesleyan on January 27. He also scored four points in an 83-74 loss to Nebraska Wesleyan on January 30.

Women's basketball

Buena Vista University: Tara Lehner, a Le Mars alum, scored five points in the Beavers' 93-73 win over Central College on January 27. Hinton alum Megan Hawthorne and Remsen St. Mary's alum Amanda Roder also saw court time during the win.

Morningside College: Katie Sponder, a Le Mars alum, grabbed four rebounds in a 74-73 loss to Mount Marty College on January 27. She added six points and four rebounds in an 80-72 win over Hastings College on January 30.

Briar Cliff University: Kendra Collins, a Le Mars alum, scored five points in the Chargers' 84-36 win over Nebraska Wesleyan on January 30.

Wrestling

Morningside College: Joe Sievert, an Akron-Westfield alum, finished second in the 165-pound weight class at Saturday's GPAC tournament. Sievert pinned USF's Jerry Renken in 1:47 and Briar Cliff's Sammy Johnson in 5:47 on his way to the title match, where he fell to No. 6 Ryan Tuzon of Dana College by a 5-3 decision and was named to the All-GPAC second team.

Augustana College: Marcus Edgington, a Hinton alum ranked No. 1 among NCAA Division II 157-pounders, won a 4-2 decision over the University of Mary's Collin Engelhardt in the No. 10 Vikings' 31-1 win on January 29.

Indoor track and field

Morningside College: Kyle Groon, an Akron-Westfield alum, finished second in the men's high jump with a leap of 6-foot-6 at the Buena Vista Invitational Graphic Edge Open on Saturday.
