Emily Kay Hawkins and Jordan Thomas Wendell of Vermillion, S.D., were united in marriage Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. Pastor Josh Hansen officiated the 3:30 p.m. ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Roger and Kathleen Hawkins of Le Mars. The bridegroom is the son of Rod Wendell of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Dolores Wendell of Vermillion, S.D.

Inez Hoogeveen provided piano and organ music and Dolores Wendell, mother of the bridegroom, sang a solo as the couple lit the unity candle.

Meghan Petersen of Gregory, S.D., was maid of honor and the bridesmaids were Amber Wendell, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, Katie Lakes, Jessica Nielson, sister of the bridegroom, and Sarah Strasburg.

Garrett Wendell, brother of the bridegroom of Fort Riley, Kan., was best man. The groomsmen were Jay Carroll, Brady Purvis, Greg Nielson, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, and Travis Hawkins, brother of the bride.

The flowergirl was Brooklin Nielson, niece of the bridegroom, and the ring bearer was Christopher Opbroek, cousin of the bridegroom.

Ushers were Brad Lakes, Mitch Boe and Matt Peyton.

After a limo ride around the community, a reception was held in the upper level of the Le Mars Convention Center. A dance followed the catered dinner.

Both are graduates of the University of South Dakota where Emily received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and Jordan received his bachelor of science in psychology. Emily graduated in May 2009 and Jordan graduated in December 2009.

The couple took a wedding trip to Jamaica this January and they have made their home in Lincoln, Neb.
