Travel not advised on Highway 75, 60 north

Monday, January 25, 2010
The Iowa Department of Transportation is reporting that travel conditions in northwest Iowa are extremely hazardous.

Multiple roadways are being temporarily closed due to a high incidence of traffic crashes, including those involving high-profile vehicles.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for much of central and western Iowa. All travelers should heed this advisory and not travel in the affected area unless absolutely necessary and until the winds subside.

Iowa DOT snowplows serving U.S. 18 from Sheldon to Spencer are being pulled temporarily from the roadway because of restricted visibility and unsafe travel conditions.

U.S. 71 is impassable from Early north to Storm Lake.

Interstate 29 southbound is closed once again near Sloan due to a multi-vehicle crash. This has been a crash-prone area today in which motorists should be exercising additional caution, putting extra room between their vehicles and the ones ahead, and slowing down for slick road conditions.

No travel is advised on:

* U.S. 18 from the South Dakota border east to U.S. 169

* U.S. 71 from U.S. 18 north to the Minnesota border

* U.S. 75 from Le Mars north to the Minnesota border

* Iowa 4 from Iowa 3 north to the Minnesota border

* Iowa 60 from Le Mars north to the Minnesota border
