Odd/even parking in effect full-time

Monday, December 28, 2009

The odd/even parking requirements in Le Mars will be in effect for the rest of the winter, according to Police Chief Stu Dekkenga.

"Because of the heavy snow, streets are narrowed, and when people park across from each other we can't get snowplows and in some cases fire trucks through," Dekkenga said Monday.

The city's odd/even parking ordinance states from Nov. 1 to April 1, vehicles should be parked on the odd side of the street on odd-numbered calendar days and on the even side of the street on even-numbered days.

The "calendar day" begins at 6 p.m. the previous day.

Vehicles in violation of the parking ordinance will be ticketed, with a fine of $25.

Anyone with questions can call the Le Mars Police Department at 546-4113.

"Ticketing is going to be happening every night," Dekkenga said. "We need to keep the streets open."
