Thursday, Le Mars will bring in the new year to the sound of rock 'n roll with guitars, drums and an accordion.

That's right, an accordion.

Hailing from Harlan, Iowa, the Mighty Nish Band will be playing its show from 9 p.m., New Year's Eve, to 1 a.m., New Year's Day for the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce New Year's day celebration.

Established in 2003, the Mighty Nish Band boasts a high energy rock concert that intertwines popular songs from the 1950s to some of today's favorites with powerful four-part harmonies, unique arrangements and even some humor thrown in, according to the band's website, www.mightynishband.com.

Just a few of many songs the Mighty Nish Band cover includes "Brick House," "Wonderful Tonight," "Brown Eyed Girl," "China Grove" and "I Feel Good."

The group of two brothers, their cousin and their long time friend even use audience participation to make sure the night will be one full of fun and dancing.

On the website, the band describes the word "nish" as being a party, making the "Mighty Nish" a party band. The word is actually an abbreviation of the Nishnabotna River, a small stream that runs through Harlan.

Doors to the Le Mars Convention Center will open at 7:30 p.m. to welcome those attending the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce New Year's Eve Dance. Cost is $10 per person.

Tickets to the dance, hosted by the Main Street Organizational Committee, can be purchased by contacting the Le Mars Chamber at 546-8821 or any committee member.
