"I think they knew I wasn't very happy with them," RSM coach Brad Gralheer described his halftime speech to the Hawks, who trailed 20-18.
"I just said that I didn't think that we were ready to play. But they came out in the third quarter and our press was very effective. We were more patient with it and it showed."
The Hawks went on a 20-8 run as they took control of the War Eagle Conference contest.
"We played really well in the third quarter," Gralheer said.
"In the fourth quarter, we didn't really stall, but we slowed it down."
Emma Krier led the Hawks with 14 points in the win.
Mercedees Ricke chipped in nine points and grabbed six rebounds while Brielle Biezuns collected eight points and four rebounds.
Emily Klein also grabbed four rebounds in the win.
The Hawks used their speed to grab 11 steals in the win.
"That got our running game going," said Gralheer, whose team improves to 3-1 in the WEC.
"It was a good win, it just took us awhile to get there. I think Spalding played pretty well (also)."
After the Christmas break, the Hawks (5-3, 3-1) will be pitted against WEC rival Gehlen Catholic in the first round of the annual CYO tournament on Saturday, Jan. 2, in Remsen.
