Tryouts are from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 28 and 29 at the Postal Playhouse, 105 First St. N.E., Le Mars.
Three women and three men are needed for the cast, and no preparation is needed prior to auditions.
Scripts can be read before by contacting Director Frances Krull at 546-5788 or on her cell at 540-3467.
"I Hate Hamlet" is a comedy featuring a young and successful television actor who relocates to New York. With an uncertain TV career, he is offered the opportunity to play Hamlet onstage.
The problem -- he hates Hamlet.
His dilemma deepens when John Barrymore's ghost arrives drunk and in full costume to the apartment and the two battle in a funny duel over women, art, success, duty and television.
Rehearsals for the play usually begin at 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and the time commitment depends on the size of the role. Flexibility of schedule could be discussed at auditions.
Play production dates are Friday, Feb. 19 through Sunday, Feb. 21 and Thursday, Feb. 25 through Sunday, Feb. 28 with 7:30 p.m. evening performances and 2 p.m. matinees.
If people want to audition, but cannot attend the set times next week they should call Krull to schedule an alternate time.
In addition to trying out for a role as a cast member, people are also encouraged to volunteer to be part of the backstage crew.
In those positions, volunteers have the opportunity to nurture old relationships and make new ones, according to a Le Mars Community Theater press release.
Anyone with further questions concerning auditioning for the play or volunteering for the crew can call Krull or send an email to postalplayhouse@frontiernet.net.
