All Iowans eligible for H1N1 vaccination

Monday, December 14, 2009
Beginning today (Monday) all Iowans will be eligible to receive an H1N1 flu vaccination, according to an announcement by the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Floyd Valley Community Health will be offering free public H1N1 clinics from 4-6 p.m. Thursday and 3:30-6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22 at Floyd Valley Hospital Conference Center.

There will also be a clinic from 4-6 p.m. Monday, December 21 at the Kingsley Community Center.

The vaccinations will be available to anyone at no charge.

The IDPH continues to encourage those at highest risk of complications to make sure they are vaccinated.

Public health officials predict that another wave of H1N1 illness will occur during the usual time Iowa sees the highest rates of influenza activity -- late January and February.

Being immunized as soon as possible will give Iowans protection against this possible third wave of illness.

H1N1 vaccine does not protect against the seasonal influenza.

People should not receive the vaccine if they have a severe (life-threatening) allergy to eggs. People should also tell the person administering the vaccine if they have ever had a life-threatening allergic reaction after a dose of seasonal flu vaccine or have had Guillain Barré Syndrome.

If a person is moderately or severely ill, he or she may want to wait until recovering before getting the vaccine.

For a complete listing of all scheduled H1N1 clinics, visit www.floydvalleyhospital.org or call the Influenza Information Line at 712-546-3716.

Surely the hospitals are being subsidized by someone, probably the federal government, for giving out these vaccines. Sounds like socialized medicine to me. I'm not sure I want my tax dollars to pay for this.

.....just kidding.
