DeRocher takes 135-pound title at Humboldt

The Le Mars wrestling team opened its season with a third-place finish at the eight-team Humboldt Invite on Saturday. Hinton placed eighth.

The 'Dogs had a slew of third-place and runner-up finishers, but Hinton's Devin DeRocher was the lone Plymouth County champion.

The senior DeRocher pinned Le Mars' Nathan Reiter in 4:21 and won a 6-4 decision over MV/A-O's Timothy Dougherty before falling 5-4 to Atlantic's Rob Nichols in the 135-pound pool.

DeRocher advanced to the title match where he won a 7-1 decision over Humboldt's Nick Olthoff to win the weight class. Reiter defeated Shenendoah's Matt O'Hearn to finish seventh.

Le Mars' Anthony Schimek cruised through his 130-pound pool with a 3-0 posting before falling to champion Tre' Rutz in the title match. Hinton's Isaac Wodtke finished eighth in the same weight class.

Hinton's Kole Vondrak, coming off an injury that caused him to miss last season, went 3-0 in pool play before being pinned in the 152-pound title match by Atlantic's Kody Havens in 1:38. Le Mars' Justin Guy was 1-2 in pool play and dropped his final match to Dakota Johnson of Atlantic to finish sixth. Fellow Bulldog Jacob Johnson was 2-1 in the same pool and fell in his final match to Humboldt's Dillon Olson to place fourth.

Le Mars' DAvid Hernandez rolled to a 3-0 pool record before falling to MV/AO's Nolan Kafton in the title match in the 160-pound class. Teammate Brian Kehm was 1-2 in pool play and finished sixth while Hinton's Craig Stanley finished seventh.

Le Mars' Chris Hiserote took eighth at 171 pounds and Hinton's Kyle Vondrak was sixth in the same weight class.

Hinton's Tanner Knop and Le Mars' Kelly Lind each finished second with 2-1 postings in their respective pools in the 189-pound class. Knop prevailed by pinning Lind in 3:35 in the third-place match.

Justin Carpenter of Le Mars was 3-0 in pool play at 215 pounds and fell to Atlantic's Jim Swanson in the title contest. Hinton's Avery Peirce defeated Humboldt's Ian Hadar to place seventh.

Le Mars' Chris Stevenson was undefeated at 3-0 in pool play before falling to Humboldt's Trent Sawyer in the championship match at 285 pounds.

Quinton Vore was 2-1 in pool action for the 'Dogs and defeated Isaac Jessen of MV/A-O in his final match to earn third place at 125 pounds.

Le Mars' Zach Reed was 2-1 in pool play and defeated teammate David Weidauer - also second in his pool with a 2-1 record - to finish third in the 140-pound bracket.

The Bulldogs' Brayton Ringsdorf was second in his pool with a 2-1 record and defeated West Central Valley's Zach Jorgensen to place third at 145 pounds.
