Participating Remsen businesses will be opening their doors to welcome visitors from 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. with refreshments and drawings.
There will be something for everyone to enjoy during the evening.
In case of inclement weather on Monday night, activities will be held Wed., Dec. 9.
This year the downtown area from the Thiel corner to The Triangle will be blocked off for the safety of those crossing the street to visit downtown businesses.
As in the past, the evening will feature horse drawn wagon rides and rides on Remsen's antique fire truck.
Fire pits will be provided on the street corners in the main square for roasting marshmallows with the help of Remsen Fire Department.
There will be a cookie exchange sponsored by Remsen churches at the V.F.W. Hall. Anyone interested in donating cookies for the exchange should bring two dozen cookies or candies to Tammy Portz at Muller's Interior Design before 2:00 p.m. or after 2:00 p.m. bring them to the V.F.W. Hall. Also at the V.F.W. Hall, the Happy Siesta Health Care Center will be providing hot chocolate and cookies.
At 6:15 p.m. the pastors from the Remsen churches will provide the "Blessing of the Season" around the Christmas tree in the town square.
Watch for Santa to make an appearance at 6:30 p.m. to light the Christmas tree in the main square.
Children are welcome to stay and visit with Santa in front of the Christmas tree following the tree lighting.
Again this year the Hubie Nothem family will have 'living' Christmas scene in the window north of the American Bank building.
Stop by and enjoy Hubie's train and some of his extensive collection of adorable mechanical Christmas figures. The youngsters and young at heart will love it.
The Hope Angels will be handing out free popcorn in the conference center room at American Bank and encourage you to stop in and lend your support for this worthy cause.
Also, we invite you to enjoy the true meaning of Christmas with the Christian Leadership Team, under the direction of Mary Arens, as they create the reverent atmosphere of the Live Nativity scene at the Remsen Coop's Agronomy building from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. The Children's Choir under the direction of Carrie Higgins will also be performing.
At the Avalon, Christmas trees decorated by businesses and individuals from the area will be on display.
This weekend, Santa will be coming to the Avalon during the 'Festival of Trees'on Sat., December 5.
Pancakes will be served from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and the little ones, age 1 year to 7 years old, who visit with Santa will receive candy wrapped with paper with special number printed on the wrapper.
Participating businesses with the same number displayed in their window will have a free ($10-$15) gift for those children to pick up during the Olde Fashioned Christmas celebration on Monday evening Dec. 7.
