Hinton grapplers fall to SC West in opener

On Tuesday, Hinton wrestling coach Jan George returned with his wrestlers to Sioux City West, a school whose wrestling tradition he helped build and where he is still a teacher.

The Class 3A Wolverines defeated the Blackhawks 55-24, but Hinton did win two of the eight matches that were not decided by forfeit.

Sophomore Isaac Wodtke defeated DJ Lusenbrink by fall at the 1:13 mark at 135 pounds. Senior Devin DeRocher, in search of his first state meet appearance since his freshman year, pinned Kieron Ahrens in 1:29.

Sophomore Nate Held won by forfeit at 145 pounds while freshman Seth Courtright won a forfeit decision at 125 pounds in his varsity debut.

Hinton struggled in the second half of of the double dual as it fell 68-18 to Lawton-Bronson. DeRocher pinned Chris Singleton in 3:18 and Tanner Knop recorded a major decision victory at 189 pounds.

Freshman Quinton Robinson recorded a forfeit win at 103 pounds.

Hinton returns to action on Friday at the Humboldt Invite.

Wrestling roundup

Kingsley-Pierson dropped three matches at the Sioux City East Duals on Tuesday. The Panthers fell 62-15 to Woodbury Central and 70-6 to Sioux City East before rebounding with a narrow 39-24 loss to Plymouth County rival Akron-Westfield. No other individual results were available.

The Panthers and the Westerners return to action this weekend at the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Invite.
