Thanksgiving dinner planners seek help

Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Plans are underway for the Fifth Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

The turkey meal, organized by Rejoice! Community Church and the Eagles will be hosted at the Eagles Club in Le Mars from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. November 26.

Last year the meal fed more than 360 people.

But to make it happen, event organizers are seeking volunteer helpers.

"Your help is needed as we outreach to the needy and lonely people in our community and beyond," said Adri Ruisch, one of the coordinators.

Most of the food is already donated.

"The businesses really step up to the plate," Ruisch said.

People can still help in several ways.

They can donate money to help pay for hosting the meal by contacting Rejoice! Community Church.

People can also donate their time to help prepare for and serve the meal.

Volunteers can help deliver meals, assemble meals, helping serve the meal and clean up.

Organizers are requesting volunteers sign up to work in advance.

A sign up will be available at Rejoice! Community Church, 1320 Third Ave. S.E.

Tasks will be assigned after Sunday, Nov. 22.

Anyone with questions can contact Cathy and Todd De Boer or Gene and Adri Ruisch, all of Le Mars.

People wishing to pre-order meals, which can be delivered to local homes, can call Rejoice! Community Church at 548-4430.
