Lisa Vander Sluis, children's librarian, hopes to serve even more kids at this year's event.
But to do that she needs donations of "gently used, next to new" books, Vander Sluis said.
"We believe the gift of reading is the best treat we can give the young people of the community and would love if you can join us in making that statement with your donation," Vander Sluis said.
Last year about 50 to 60 books were donated some of which Vander Sluis picked up herself from garage sales.
"We just about depleted the whole thing last year," she said.
This year's Books for Treats aimed at ages 2 through fifth grade will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 following the Halloween parade sposored by Main Street Le Mars.
The library will be divided into sections and children can choose age-appropriate books to take home, Vander Sluis said.
"I'm pretty particular in what I put out," she said.
In addition to books there will be temporary tattoos and most likely a small craft to do, Vander Sluis said.
Those wishing to donate to Books for Treats can drop off books at the library during business hours right up until the day of the event.
