Men in red shoes to create awareness Saturday

Thursday, October 8, 2009
Twenty-six men will "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" Saturday to raise awareness for Domestic Violence.

The male volunteers, wearing women's red heels, will talk to diners about the importance of men being more involved in stopping violence against women from 5-9 p.m. at 4 Brothers Bar & Grill, 1430 Twin Rivers Blvd., Le Mars.

Food will be available off the menu as well as outside as part of the event, which is also a fundraiser for the Council on Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence (CSADV) in Plymouth County.

Cathy Van Maanen, CSADV outreach coordinator for Plymouth County, said everyone should still come Saturday even if there is bad weather because the event will go on.

"We have plans to keep people warm," Van Maanen said. "There's plenty of room inside."

People are talking about the event and that's exactly what she wants, Van Maanen said.

"The talk in the community is sounding good," she added.

In addition to eating and talking there will also be live music at Saturday's event.
