Three council seats, mayor up for election in Le Mars

Monday, August 24 is the first day to file nomination papers for local elections.

In every community in Plymouth County, several seats are up for election.

Tuesday, November 3 is the regular election day.

In Le Mars, six seats will be up for election:

* The position of mayor, currently occupied by Dick Kirchoff, who entered office on January 1, 2008

* The seat of city council for ward 1, currently occupied by John Leonard, who entered office on January 1, 2005

* The seat of city council for ward 3, currently occupied by Ken Nelson, who entered office on January 1, 1998

* One seat of city council at large, currently occupied by Rex E. Knapp, who entered office on January 1, 1994

* Two positions on the hospital trustees board, currently occupied by William Young and Craig Bauerly, who entered office on April 25, 2008 and June 4, 2002, respectively.

Open positions across Plymouth County are:

Akron

* Four seats for city council

* Three seats for the care center board

Brunsville

* Mayor

* Two seats for city council

Craig

* Mayor

* Five seats for city council

Kingsley

* Mayor

* Three seats for city council

Merrill

* Mayor

* Two seats for city council

Oyens

* Mayor

* Four seats for city council

Remsen

* Three seats for city council

Deadline to file papers for these seats in all communities except Oyens and Struble is 5 p.m. Sept. 17.

The deadline in Oyens and Struble is 5 p.m. Aug. 27.

Papers must be turned into the city clerks by these deadlines.
