The words proved prophetic as the Eagles chipped away with two runs each in the second, third and fourth innings and single run in the fifth as MMC defeated Hinton 7-3 in War Eagle Conference softball action on Monday.
"We had our chances, but we made too many errors and too many mental mistakes," Hinton coach Phil Skamser said.
Things started promisingly in the first for the Blackhawks. With one out, Rileigh Burke reached on an error. Shawnee Miller followed with a single and then Kelsey Afinson walked to load the bases.
Britni Freed ripped a two-run single up the middle to score two and Afinson later scored on a squeeze play for the 3-0 lead.
But that was all as MMC took advantage of six Blackhawks errors to win the WEC contest.
"We were probably really lucky they only scored seven runs," Skamser siad. "We just sort of compounded errors. Once we made a couple, we put pressure on ourselves and got down on ourselves."
The Blackhawks (12-13, 6-9) face Remsen St. Mary's in a makeup game on Tuesday in Remsen.
