Buckle up and obey traffic laws.
That's the message of a special law enforcement project that involves agencies from the three-state area, including the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office.
Stepped up traffic enforcement begins tonight, according to Sergeant David Eral of the Iowa State Patrol
"We're really trying to make an effort to hold down the number of summer fatalities and serious accidents," Eral said. "Law enforcement is out there. We want you to remember to drive speed limit, wear safety belt, and if you're at a party use a designated driver."
Drive with caution, he added.
"Give folks ahead of you a little more space," he said. "If folks see dangerous driving, reckless driving, they should call 911."
The Tri-State Special Enforcement project happens once or twice a year and involves numerous law enforcement agencies in the tri-state area.
"All summer weekends will have stepped up enforcement," said Eral, noting he has family traveling the roads as well. "We'll be watching."

Infamous and Immortal Government words...
"We'll be watching."
I know I feel... uhhh... safer..?
Guess i just don't understand, why aren't they always enforcing the law? To call this a stepped up operation means they aren't always doing this. I often wonder if the safety factor really is the reason. This evening (shortly after 7pm) I watched an oncoming LeMars police department car heading with all lights and sirens going, nobody in front of the officer, and yet the car was all over the road and speeding wildly in a 55mph zone. Luckily the vehicle never crossed the yellow line but I wasn't sure if the officer was 'impared driving' or just having difficulty handling the vehicle. These lanes on business 75 are quite wide already, good thing the shoulder was wide too as the officer did manage to test the 'drunk bumps' a couple times. No that isn't a very good representation of safety, maybe they should be watching their own?
