Plymouth County is no longer immune to H1N1

Monday, June 1, 2009
Plymouth County has its first positive H1N1 case.

No information is being released as to the sex or age of the individual due to confidentiality. Deb Steffen, Plymouth County public health nurse manager, said she doesn't believe the person has been hospitalized.

Most cases in the U.S. have been mild and required no hospitalization, Steffen said.

Influenza A H1N1 is spread through coughs and sneezes. Practicing good hand hygiene, covering coughs and staying home when sick can help limit the spread of H1N1.

Symptoms of the virus include fever greater than 100 degrees and recent onset of at least one of the following: cough, sore throat, runny nose and nasal congestion.

Those with questions concerning Influenza A H1N1can check Floyd Valley Hospital's website at www.floydvalleyhospital.org, call 712-546-3335 or 800-642-6075 ext. 335.
