Gehlen Catholic, LCS graduation is Sunday

Gehlen Catholic and Le Mars Community High School seniors will receive their diplomas during commencement ceremonies this Sunday, May 24.

Gehlen Catholic's graduation ceremony is at 1:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium.

This year's commencement speaker is Karen Schroeder. She was at Gehlen for 14 years, teaching English, speech and drama, retired one year and returned to the school. Although she retired in May 2007, she still frequently substitute teaches at the school.

Schroeder has served on Gehlen Catholic's Kids Against Hunger (KAH) planning committee and KAH Le Mars board of directors.

The 132nd graduating class of Gehlen Catholic will receive guests in the receiving line along Memory Lane following the awarding of diplomas.

Gehlen Catholic's senior awards ceremony was held Wednesday morning.

Le Mars Community High School seniors will receive their diplomas in a 3 p.m. commencement ceremony Sunday.

Senior class president Spencer Vore will give a welcome and students speakers will be Cara Clement and Anna Powell.

Music will be provided by members of the high school band and choir.

LCS senior awards night is 6:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday) in Carey Gymnasium.
