Tigers hand Lady 'Dogs 6-3 Lakes loss

Tuesday, May 12, 2009
If Le Mars' two close matches would have gone the other way, the Lady Bulldogs would have finished the regular season with a 5-4 win instead of a 6-3 loss.

Spencer closed out Le Mars' Lakes Conference season with a 6-3 victory over the visiting squad on Monday afternoon.

The Lady Bulldogs started with a win at No. 1. Samm Rich defeated Hannah Maertens 10-3 to get the Lady 'Dogs rolling.

Natalie Miller added a close 10-7 win over Mackenzie Kabrick at No. 3.

But Cailtlin Bauerly fell 4-10 at No. 2, Erica Westhoff was edged out 8-10 at No. 4 and Haley Switalski lost 4-10 at No. 6 to give the hosts a 4-2 advantage headed into doubles play.

Miller and Fischer teamed up to nab the third win of the day for Le Mars as they defeated Amanda Edwards and Abby Bedore 10-5 at No. 3 doubles.

Bauerly and Westhoff dropped the No. 1 match 4-10 while Rich and Switalski fell 6-10 at No. 2 to give Spencer the win.

With the loss, Le Mars falls to 5-5 on the season.

The Lady Bulldogs begin postseason action on Saturday as they host the opening round of the regional tournament. Le Mars plays Cherokee at 9 a.m.

The junior varsity fell to 3-7 on the season as Spencer won a 7-2 decision.

The Lady 'Dogs got a lone win in singles play from Sammie Weidauer as she won 8-5 at No. 4 singles.

Kayla Hohbach (2-8), Stephanie Young (2-8), Catie Meis (7-9), Britney Toben (2-8) and Hannah Lang (0-8) each dropped their singles matches.

In double action, Hohbach and Young teamed up to net an 8-4 win at No. 1.

Meis and Weidauer fell 4-8 at No. 2 and Toben and Lang dropped a 3-8 decision at No. 3.
