Dorothy was born Aug. 20, 1933, the daughter of Louis and Tena (Kruse) Halweg on the family farm near Merrill. Dorothy graduated from Le Mars Central High School with the class of 1951 and went to join her sister Darlene to share an apartment and work in Sioux City. Dorothy's first job was cashier at Metz Baking Company. She then went on to work at Mutual Loan Company and Postal Finance as a cashier and clerk.

She received her 30-year retirement pin in 1996, and continued to remain active in the association.
Her many hobbies included traveling with family and friends, building her dream home, dancing, tending her flower garden and -- most specially -- attending every concert, play, ballgame, and special event in the lives of her husband, children and grandchildren.
