Coral Mae Palmer, 90, of Grand Junction, Colo., died at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado.

Born May 13, 1918 in Anthon, Iowa, Coral Mae was the daughter of John and Mae Malcom Behrens and lived with her parents, five sisters and six brothers on various farms in Iowa. She graduated from Hinton High School in 1937 and married Dwight Schneider in 1940.

She later married Charles Palmer and resided in Worland, Wyo., until moving to Grand Junction, Colo., in 1996.

During the last four years, Mrs. Palmer resided at The Commons Assisted Living Center in Grand Junction. It was here that she established a loving relationship with the staff, had many friends and enjoyed a variety of musical activities.

Mrs. Palmer was quite articulate, had a quick wit and was especially fun loving. She was particularly proud of her children and five grandchildren. Her most memorable moments were the reunions in Iowa with her large extended family.

Survivors include her son, Paul Schneider (Della) of Grand Junction, Colo.; grandsons, Mark, Eric and Chad; daughter, Dian (Geoff) Cleveland of Thornton, Colo., and their children, Matthew and Sarah. Mrs. Palmer's brothers, Loren and Malcolm Behrens also survive.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the caring direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction.
