Gary Tucker, who worked with economic development in Plymouth County for nine years, will officially begin the Hawarden position on March 16, according to Sharole Rens, finance director and interim city clerk for Hawarden.
The position in the Sioux County town had been open since August 2008, when then City Administrator Jason Metten left.
Tucker's role as city administrator and clerk will put him in charge of basic day-to-day operations for the City of Hawarden, Rens said.
"He'll coordinate with the council and the staff, oversee projects and further the community with economic development," she said.
The contract was officially voted on by the Hawarden City Council Wednesday. The vote to give Tucker the job was unanimous.
Tucker resigned from his position as Plymouth County economic development director in January 2009.
