A Le Mars couple, Jeff and Teresa Peters, will serve as honorary chairman and chairwoman for the upcoming Wine and Roses event in Le Mars, "A Time to Remember," benefiting the Alzheimer's Association.

"Each of us has been close to someone suffering from Alzheimer's disease," said Jeff Peters, who runs the Williams & Company, CPA, Le Mars office.

"The toll it has on not only the person suffering, but also the family close to that person can be high. We were part of this suffering this past year as Teresa's father passed away in October suffering from dementia. We are all well aware of the cost of research necessary to defeat this disease. What better way to raise money to support this research than by gathering with good friends for a good meal and great wine," he said.

Planning is underway for the Thursday, April 2 fundraiser, which will be held at the Le Mars Willow Creek Country Club.

Dana Schuster is chairing the committee planning an evening that will feature both a live and silent auction, comedian, dinner, and wine tasting with prestigious winemakers from across the United States.

"A Time to Remember" will benefit Alzheimer's Association programming in Plymouth County and is the kickoff event to a three-day Wine and Roses Festival with other events to be held in Sioux City.

Proceeds from the events will benefit a number of programs in the area which provide help for Alzheimer's patients and their families. They include: Senior Day Services, Siouxland's first and only dementia-friendly adult day program; coordinated care consultation for Siouxlanders with Alzheimer's and their caregivers; the 24-hour Helpline; in-home respite care; family and professional caregiver education; memory loss awareness groups; and wandering prevention and response through MedicAlert + Safe Return and Project Lifesaver.
