LCHS band to present winter concert

The Le Mars Community High School Big Red Band will present its annual Winter Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the middle school auditorium.

The Jazz Ensemble will begin the concert with "Lady Bird" by Tadd Dameron which will feature the saxophone section, Megan Dunn, alto saxophone, Nathan Young, trombone, Kim Ohrlund, trumpet, Michael Sauer, vibes, Alec Johnson, guitar, Jacob Stonesifer, tenor saxophone, and David King on baritone saxophone.

The band's second selection is "The Nearness of You," which features Jessica Kelly on vibes and Megan Dunn on alto saxophone. The band will conclude its portion of the concert with "Madrid" by Erik Morales with Nathan Young soloing on trombone.

The band received a Division I rating at the Iowa High School State Jazz Contest.

The concert band will then take the stage, beginning its portion of the concert with "Red's White and Blue March" by Red Skelton.

It will continue with "Chorale and Shaker Dance, and Mother Machree" by John Zdechlich, "Video Games Suite," arranged by Ralph Ford which includes the Halo Theme, Civilization IV, and Kingdom Hearts, and will conclude with "Barnum and Bailey's Favorite March" by Karl King. Conducting the concert will be Curt Ohrlund.

The concert is open to the public, and admission will be charged.
